The approach SLIF has
adopted in line with its mission, is to offer an enabling environment
to single ladies to overcome the problems they face. It offers
them opportunities to identify, and fully utilize their individual
potential through professional guidance and Christian stewardship
based on three fundamental principles:
A.
Alternative
B. Fulfillment
C. Completeness
Below are
the major activities that SLIF is engaged in:
1.
Christian living and leadership
This
activity is meant to provide constant spiritual nourishment to
all the members of the fellowship .It will be carried out under
the supervision of Sister Wahome . Bible teachings, sermons, witnessing
and prayers are the core activities.
Every
member has a chance to join and participate in worship and fellowship
within the established group. Such groups will be divided into
Bible study groups, prayer groups and choir groups.
Leadership
program is carried out under a number of themes covering counseling,
health, business and training. One full fellowship session is
held every month in which specialists in these subjects are invited
for open talks. Ensuring questions and answer session increases
member’s knowledge of issues affecting them. Follow up practical
activity based on new ideas gained will be introduced to bring
real and positive changes
2.
Small
and medium business support program
Promoting
member’s small business is one effective way of strengthening
them and making them improve their status. Lack of access to start
–up capital and business management skills is being given priority.
Business
support program will become full with the establishment of the
proposed Center and the production of a small business `seed`
fund. The Center (paragraph 4 below) will be used for training
purposes .It will also be equipped with computer technology to
give the members access to useful information in the internet.
Examples
of business earmarked for this program include, dressmaking, groceries,
food (and fruit juice) and handicraft. There is a high demand
in the city (population 3 million) for these items and services,
as long as quality standards are maintained.
3. Interactive good health-mind
program
The
main aim of this programme is to keep members alert, active and
strong in mind and body in order to endure the stress of modern
life .Apart from physical fitness, members will have a chance
for self discovery and team building which will be conducted by
trained facilitators.
4.
SLIF center
In
the long run, SLIF intends to establish a center to be used for
coordination, administration and training. It will also be an
information center. The center will also house some of the proposed
activities and offices.
5. Skills training
During
the initial stages, provision of skills development will form
an important component. Without the right skills and experience,
members cannot acquire the necessary confidence for improved performance
in their work. For example, SLIF recognizes that book keeping
and record keeping are basic to the success of any small business
activity. Training will also cover management, product development
and marketing.
6. Exchange program
The
need to expose SLIF members to the challenge and experiences in
the wider world around them is essential. This will help
them to compare with best practices available in certain fields
like micro credit, environmentally _ friendly businesses, use
of local technology and marketing techniques. The exchange programme
will not only involve traveling out, but will also receive visitors
from partner organization.
7.
Financing plan
God
blessed Sister Wahome who continues to support the fellowship.
She is willing to donate her own piece of land for a purpose of
building the proposed center. However there is need to seek more
funds from sponsors in order to achieve the stated objective.
Another potential source of development funds is SLIF itself.
